Italy Visa Appointment Wait Times: How Far Ahead to Book

2026-10-26 · 3 min read

When an application can be lodged

EU Visa Code Article 9(1) says an application is lodged no more than six months before the start of the intended visit (nine months for seafarers on duty) and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before that start. In a justified individual case of urgency, the consulate or the central authorities may allow a later application. The Los Angeles consulate states its own rule as up to six months before the planned trip and no later than 15 calendar days before the departure date. The New York consulate says an appointment can be scheduled at most 180 days before the intended departure day, and that page does not state the 15-day lodging cutoff. Open slots are a separate limit and are often tighter than this filing window.
