Visa fees
For October 1–December 31, 2026, the Embassy of Italy fee page lists US$103.70 for a short-stay visa and US$51.90 for ages 6–12. Citizens of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova, Serbia, and Ukraine are listed at US$40.40. Under 6 is not a separate row. A national (long-stay) visa is US$133.60, or US$57.60 for study. The page was last updated October 2, 2026; checked October 26, 2026.
The Embassy publishes a new dollar amount each quarter (January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1). Confirm the figure on the official fee page before you pay. The Washington office asks for a money order or cashier’s check. Its FAQ payee is “Embassy of Italy – Washington DC”; the fee page uses “Embassy of Italy, Washington DC”. Other consulates name their own payee.
Processing time
Most applications are processed in about 15 calendar days, but this can extend to 30-45 days during peak summer season. Do not file earlier than 6 months before travel. The Washington embassy office says a decision there usually takes 7–15 days and that rush processing is not available; that timing is for that office only. A visa does not guarantee entry.
