SF consulate at a glance
The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco is at 2590 Webster Street, San Francisco, CA 94115. It serves Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and California except the areas served by Los Angeles (Imperial Valley, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura). The same visa page also lists American Territories of Samoa, American Territory of Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Johnston Atoll, Wake Island, and Midway Islands. Insurance on the San Francisco checklist
The consulate's Schengen tourist checklist says inadequate medical expenses coverage is the number one reason for visa rejections. It asks for a letter or certificate covering medical expenses, hospitalization costs, and repatriation for medical reasons, for the days outside the United States, of not less than 30,000 euro or 50,000 dollars. An insurance card alone is not enough. Submitting the documents does not guarantee a visa. The PDF path is dated October 2023.
